Pakistan fast bowler Mohammad
Aamer was released from jail in
Britain where he was serving a 6 month sentence for spot-fixing. As per
reports, the young fast bowler has served half of his jail sentence, but
has been released on bail for good habits, 2 days early. He’s yet to
complete his 5 year ban phase.
Aamer, Salman and Asif were found responsible in the scandal that shook the world in May 2010. On November 3, Butt, Asif and Aamer
became the initial players ever to be jailed for corruption after they
were found responsible in the spot-fixing case. Southwark Crown Court
sentenced Butt to prison for two and a half yrs, while Asif was handed a
twelve months jail phrase. Aamer was also found responsible but was sentenced to 6 months in the young offenders’ detention center instead of prison.
Cricketers’ agent Mazhar Majeed got the strongest penalties as he was
sentenced to 2 years and 8 months in jail after a trial that ran for
near to 3 weeks. Butt and Asif were found responsible of conspiracy to
deceive and conspiracy to accept corrupt payments by a court while
Mazhar Majeed and Aamer pleaded responsible at a pre-trial in Sept.
In Feb, Butt was banned for a decade, five of which were suspended,
Asif for 7 yrs, while Aamer was suspended for 5 yrs by the ICC in
disciplinary action against the players.
