BNP acting secretary general Mirza Fakhrul Islam Alamgir said on Wednesday that his party will not take part in the general election under the newly formed Election Commission.

The entire appointment process of the chief election commissioner is unconstitutional, unlawful and illegal, Mirza Fakhrul said in his immediate reaction about the new EC at the party’s Nayapaltan office.

The president has appointed former parliament secretary Kazi Rakib Uddin Ahmed as the CEC. Cabinet Division will issue a gazette notification in this regard later in the day.

Mirza Fakhrul said the entire process of reforming the Election Commission and appointing the CEC is illegal. “BNP will not accept it,” he said.
