Mushtaq Ahmed’s name has cropped up as one of the main candidates to be the bowling coach of the national side before the visit to Sri Lanka.
As per details, Mushtaq who until this week was working with the
English team in Sri Lanka as their bowling coach has already held 2
meetings with the PCB Chairman Zaka Ashraf.
“Mushtaq Ahmed has met with Zaka Ashraf and talked about the
chance of taking over as bowling coach and working along with Dav
Whatmore,” one source said. Mushtaq who was a part of Pakistan’s 1992
World Cup winning team, has spent the recent years receiving coaching
credentials and working as a professional coach in England.
“Many officials in the Board and some senior people in the Pakistan
team are pleased with the experience Mushtaq has obtained while working
in England and also as a bowling coach with the England squad in the
last two three yrs,” the source said. Mushtaq Ahmed worked as a bowling
coach for a short time with the Pakistan team 3 years back.
The source said it wasn’t certain whether Mustaq Ahmed
had also applied for the bowling coach job to the PCB coaching panel
which had advertised the post currently and given a March 23 timeline
for serious candidates to send in their CVs.
