The next generation iPhone 5 from
Apple
is rumored to be unveiled in the month of June. However, there might be
a postpone in the developing process. Because of a few issues, the
ETSI, a commission in Europe that grants requirements in technology, has
delayed a vote on implementing
Apple’s latest “nano sim.” Moreover, Nokia might also cause a delay due to the nano sim design options they introduced.
At the close of last month, there’s a rumours that Apple would
use a thinner design for a sim card which was referred ti as the nano
sim for the soon to be launched iPhone 5. For this reason, further
reduce the size of the current micro sim by approximately one-third and
would give more room for battery parts. The first strategy of ETSI is to
vote last March 29th. Sadly, it’s delayed.
As per Foss Patents, a technology blog, the delay was caused by the
obvious reluctance of Nokia to license its possible vital patents in
case the suggestion about the nano-SIM is authorized and the opposition
of SanDisk to the proposition of Nokia. Nokia is currently hesitant to
move on with the issue because of couple of reasons. 1st, it’s a market
benefit. 2nd, Nokia argues there’s a more suitable design for the
nano-SIM compared to that of Apple.
According to reports, Nokia said that they’d hold back their patents
if Apple’s offer of the nano-SIM standard is authorized. Mark Durrant,
spokesman of Nokia, says that the proposal of Apple doesn’t pass all the
prerequisites for the nano-SIM. Without the permission of the suggested
nano-SIM, it’s still unsure if Apple will or will not continue with its
manufacturing of the iPhone 5 in time for a release on June.
